Glacier Creek Falls Adventure

It’s been a while since an update. But since WordPress charged me again for another year of hosting, I figured I’d better actually use this site! 🙂

Every year our July 4th tradition is to go on a fourwheeler/ATV ride. We usually head to Glacier Creek Falls, which is maybe a 50mile ride, roundtrip.

The Nome River at Dexter in June 2021.

This year, thanks to our cold and cloudy summer, we postponed the ride to July 13. And that was so well timed! The sky opened up and it did not rain one single drop. It was just perfect for the day trip. Not too hot, not to cold, juuuuuust right.

The views were stunning, as usual.

Views from the trail.

The snow slide was there, as usual, which elated many folks. Please enjoy these quick phone camera clips, sped up for your viewing pleasure.

Unique little wildflowers brought me so much delight.

Kiddos had fun playing in the little creek. Evie fell into the water several times but kept walking right back into it. 🤷‍♀️
Some of the more daring folks love to scramble all over the rock formations like little mountain goats. Above the falls are neat little pools where the stream has smoothed out the stone and created little schutes that the water gushes through on its way out of the mountians.
On a hotter day it might be a bit more refreshing. But with ambient temp high in the high 50’s-very low 60’s…. I did not step in this water barefoot!

Evie, the water magnet.

Ever a trek to get out there, it seems to take twice as long to arrive (2+hours) as it does to get back home. But it is always a peaceful day in the hills and we look forward to it so much, every year. Thankful for blue skies, few bugs, and sweet memories!

I bought a new fourwheeler this year. And I have zero regrets. Mattie (short for Matanuska) arrived in mid-June after an unbearably long wait. And it’s been so lovely to have wheels and power and feel the wind once again in my hair.

Already got a little mud on the tires (and everywhere else).

I didn’t know you had to *break in* an ATV and am thankful for friends who gave me a heads up before I put some unnecessary wear and tear on the new baby.
A friend and I took her up Anvil Mountain and Windmill hill after putting about 80miles on Mattie in June. Was great fun to try her out on some trails instead of roads. My previous ATVs have not had powered steering and I had no idea what I was missing. Now I’m well informed. #Spoiled.

Alaska Gold and Resort

We visited the White Alices, just to say we summited the hill.

White Alices: Cold War Leftovers.

We rode down the backside of Anvil MOuntian and bushwacked for a minute as we couldn’t find the OG trail. We akwardly drove right past the Alaska Gold and Resort site and tried not to look too “intruder-ly.”

When we got back to town, I stopped by the Nome Beltz Middle High School (NBMHS🙄) for some muskox viewing. They were chilling on the warm sunny day and had been napping in the parking lot. Photos are very cropped. I don’t have a telephoto lens and wasn’t about to tick these prehistoric goats off.

I wasn’t quite ready to stop riding. So I toodled out to the mouth of the Nome River. It was such a stunning day and was fun to see others out for a ride as well. 🙂
